[Verse 1] I left New England with my thumb in the air cold Boston winter still stuck in my hair a trucker out of Scranton let me ride in the back singin' every mile down that long blacktop track [Chorus] So roll me on, sweet southbound road I'm tired and I'm dusty and I'm carryin' a load down past the Blue Ridge where the dogwood's found there's a girl in the valley and I'm Carolina bound [Verse 2] Through the Shenandoah where the green hills climb I traded my watch for a jug of shine slept in a boxcar, woke in the dew one day closer, darlin', to you [Chorus] So roll me on, sweet southbound road I'm tired and I'm dusty and I'm carryin' a load down past the Blue Ridge where the dogwood's found there's a girl in the valley and I'm Carolina bound [Banjo Break] [Verse 3] When I top that rise and I see her light I'll thank the good Lord for this travelin' night she'll be on the porch in her cotton gown and I'll lay it ALL down, Carolina bound [Final Chorus] So roll me on, sweet southbound road I'm tired and I'm dusty and I'm carryin' a load down past the Blue Ridge where the dogwood's found there's a girl in the valley and I'm Carolina bound [Outro] there's a girl in the valley and I'm Carolina bound
