Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

V5.5

We were somewhere near Barstow when the drugs took hold Rented red Chevy trunk full of luggage and a suitcase of lies. The desert went blank then started talking in the language of heat and speed. I had my notebook my weapon and the thin metallic taste of the American Dream! It was too weird to live too rare to die. I could feel the whole country tilt in my teeth. Buy the ticket take the ride that was the law of the road and the road kept getting louder: We can’t stop here. This is bat country! Too weird to live too rare to die! Too weird to live too rare to die! That was the center of it the black pulse under the visor. Too weird to live too rare to die! I rode the fever straight through Vegas through the wreckage and the neon dust! The hotel room breathed like an animal. Ashtrays ice mirrors debt. Everything had the stink of doom under fluorescent grace. I kept my head down in the typewriter glow trying to catch the shape of the beast but the whole scene was already gone before I could name it! Fear everywhere. Loathing in every corner. A bad road a bad face a bad prayer under the fluorescent buzz. Still I drove on one hand on the wheel the other in the darkness watching the American night split open and flare! Too weird to live too rare to die! Too weird to live too rare to die! We can’t stop here! This is bat country! Too weird to live too rare to die! I rode the fever straight through Vegas and the fever rode me back! Too weird to live. Too rare to die. Bat country.
