I Wish It Could Be Speedway Everyday Verse 1 When the engines start to thunder in the night, And the crowd begins to roar beneath the lights, All the riders at the tapes, In a cloud of smoke and shale, I feel the thrill that makes me want to stay… Chorus So I wish it could be speedway every day, When the bikes go sliding past and spray the clay, Oh I wish it could be speedway every day, Let the green light glow and take my cares away. Verse 2 See the pit gates full of colour, flags held high, Hear the sirens and the engines as they fly, Four abreast into the bend, Throwing sparks until the end, I’m on my feet and shouting out their names… Chorus So I wish it could be speedway every day, When the bikes go sliding past and spray the clay, Oh I wish it could be speedway every day, Let the green light glow and take my cares away. Bridge When the winter closes tracks and nights grow cold, We just dream of summer speedway, brave and bold, Till the tapes go up again, We’ll be singing this refrain, Let the speedway never fade away! Final Chorus So I wish it could be speedway every day, Hear the roar and feel the rush of shale and clay, Yes I wish it could be speedway every day, Let the racing roll and take my cares away
