Devils and angels keep talking at once. Neither one whispers. They both sound convinced. One says, "Swing first." One says, "Don't blink." One wants blood. One wants me thinking. Got a blade in my ribs and a guard in my head. Every move gets argued before it's been said. Funny thing... The devil doesn't always lie. The angel ain't always right. Both know exactly where to press when I close my eyes. I quit tryna split my brain into heroes and villains, it's way more complicated. Every decision's a committee meeting where everybody's loud and nobody's patient. Part of me says, "Kick the damn door." Part of me says, "Count to four." Part of me's checking the exits before I've decided what I'm standing for. See, I know that temper, I know that tether, I know that pressure'll stretch when tested. Know how resentment can dress like justice, smile respectable, sound well-intended. People say, "Trust your heart." Cool... which piece? The one that forgives? Or the one with the receipts? They both make sense when they make their case. One talks mercy. One talks payback. One says leave it. One says take that. Every damn answer got another face. Who gets the keys... Who gets the seat... Who gets to tell me... Who I should be... One voice feeds... One voice bleeds... Both wear my name... Both know me... Maybe the fight never needed a winner. Maybe the trick was to learn who's talking before I react to the sentence. Funny how hatred'll borrow your voice. Fear'll put confidence on like a costume. Ego'll swear it's protecting your life while it's quietly making the walls of your own little courtroom. Think... wait... Breathe... don't... Snap... hold... Back... go... Every command got another command. Every demand got another demand. Head turning into a packed grandstand. Then... Everybody talking and nobody stopping, I'm chopping the options and locking the problem inside of a box with a knock and a caution, I'm caught in the crossfire, forcing a thought to be law but the flaws in the logic are costing me oxygen, constantly crossing the caution tape, talking myself into awful takes, all of the angels and all of the demons are wearing my face when they're calling my name. So I sat with the noise. Didn't kill it. Didn't crown it. Just listened long enough to know which voice needed me... and which one needed feeding. Who gets the keys... Who gets the seat... Who gets to tell me... Who I should be... One voice feeds... One voice bleeds... Balance ain't peace... It's choosing daily. Now the argument doesn't feel like voices, it feels like habits arguing over control. They don't scream anymore, they negotiate in the background like broken contracts. I still hear them, but it's like two radios tuned wrong in the same room. So I stopped answering fast. Let both finish the sentence before I move. Talking to myself in triplicate, splitting the syllables, spiraling minimal signals, I’m juggling digital riddles and brittle opinions that pivot and rip at the middle of every decision I’m giving a physical spin, I’m indifferent but militant, living in parallel versions of tension and temper and testing the limits of whether I listen or end it or bend it again in a second of sentiment, everything evident, nothing is settled in stone when I’m wrestling devils and elements holding my skeleton. Some days I swear I win. Most days I just learn what not to repeat. Who gets the keys... still echoes, still checks, still presses the question into my chest. But quieter now. Like even the arguments got tired of winning. Now I can tell the difference between silence and surrender. One feels like peace, the other feels like something unfinished pacing the room. Last thought looping: if both voices sound like me, then maybe the fight was never about winning, just about learning which version of me I can live with when everything goes quiet enough to hear it clearly.
