[Verse 1] You wore your best bad judgement Like it suited you well I had a head full of answers And nothing to tell We made the wrong things happen At exactly the right time I brought chaos to the table And somehow you made it rhyme [Pre-Chorus] We had the nerve We had the style You knew my worst And stayed a while We nearly held The whole thing through Just long enough To say I do [Chorus] We were nearly brilliant You and I We were nearly brilliant For a little while Nearly had the whole world Nearly knew We were nearly brilliant Me and you [Verse 2] We missed trains and made excuses Turned up lost and called it fate Made a joke of every warning Till we laughed a day too late We could turn a wrong direction Into somewhere worth the ride Make a mess look like a story Till we landed either side [Pre-Chorus] We had the nerve We had the style You knew my worst And stayed a while We nearly held What wouldn’t stay Just long enough To lose our way [Chorus] We were nearly brilliant You and I We were nearly brilliant For a little while Nearly had the whole world Nearly knew We were nearly brilliant Me and you [Bridge] We were never good at endings We were better on the run We could ruin any Tuesday And still make Wednesday fun I’d lose you ten times over And gladly take the blame A ticket to disaster To be alive again [Final Chorus] We were nearly brilliant You and I We were nearly brilliant For a little while Nearly had the whole world Nearly knew We were nearly brilliant Me and you [Outro] We were nearly brilliant And that’ll have to do I’d take all the trouble If it led me back to you
