[Verse 1] We met in thawing autumn Leaves at our shoes You smiled like late gold honey Falling through Your coat had rain on the collar Mine had none The park looked tired and perfect Under the sun [Pre-Chorus] And the air said stay While the day ran warm I knew then, baby Something had gone wrong [Chorus] Our year was backward Our seasons rearranged A winter hot yet cold Our summer changed A frosty spring Yet fall had thawed us back Our year was backward And nothing WAS ON TRACK (Backward seasons) (Backward seasons) [Verse 2] Then came blazing winter Your hand in mine Snow in the streetlights Felt like red wine We kissed in the doorway Steam on the glass The cold wore your laugh Like a sweet match struck fast [Pre-Chorus] As if the sun went crazy Up above our heads Spinning the whole sky Till the old rules bled [Chorus] Our year was backward Our seasons rearranged A winter hot yet cold Our summer changed A frosty spring Yet fall had thawed us back Our year was backward And nothing WAS ON TRACK (Backward seasons) (Backward seasons) [Bridge] Spring came chill and silver Your breath went thin Daisies on the windows Looked like little sins We wore bright days Like borrowed clothes The warmer it should have been The more it froze [Chorus] Our year was backward Our seasons rearranged A winter hot yet cold Our summer changed A frosty spring Yet fall had thawed us back Our year was backward And nothing WAS ON TRACK (Backward seasons) (Backward seasons) [Verse 3] Then summer opened up Like a furnace door Heat on the pavement Could not keep you more We parted in the glare At the edge of June Too brief, too strange Too soon, too soon [Outro] And I still feel it turning Wrong and true A sky that lost its compass When I lost you
