From my spot on the couch, under a pile of unread mail... I try to rest. I try to sleep. Where the hell is my pillow? Oh god. He's doing the jaw-click again. He claimed a kingdom on my highest shelf, Did he haul that heavy padding up himself?! Stealing my pillow for a cotton throne, Acting like he bought this whole house on his own! Dreaming of glory or a morning treat, Till a shadow falls over his royal feet! Fat grey pigeon landing on the outer ledge, Clucking at a breadcrumb on the window edge! Ears going flat, tail swinging wide, Watching all his sanity drift aside! Down goes a book! Down goes a frame! Playing his ridiculous morning game! CLAWS OUT? PLEASE, NO! WHERE DID YOUR SANITY GO?! Small in the flesh, but a giant disaster— AND I'M SUPPOSED TO BE THE MASTER! HEY! HEY! I KNOW THE DRILL! YOU'RE THE TERROR OF THE WINDOWSILL! If doom comes knocking, it can HAVE my keys, I'M THE HUMAN BEGGING "PLEASE, JUST PLEASE!" Over my laundry, knocking over my chair, Charging across my desk while I yell "DON'T YOU DARE!" A flying leap and a curtain climb, Reaching the border just in time! That pigeon bobs its head on the other side, Making a noise while your eyes go wide! Striking like thunder, swift and mean— Then... *BONK!* Leaving a wet nose smudge on the clean glass screen! Do you really think that bird woke up today just to mess with your head? It's literally just a fat grey pigeon. Minding his own business on the ledge. And you're glaring through double-pane glass... Leaving a giant nose smudge on the pane. Did you just call the bird... ...a coward, or am I going insane? Pacing to the left, pacing to the right, Glaring at the glass in a one-man fight! Dragging one claw down the window pane, Going totally, completely insane! Then down goes the ivy! Down goes the fern! Dirt on the carpet at every single turn! The last pot smashes with a thunderclap— Scooping you up in a two-handed trap! Yeah, scream all you want, "brave knight." We're going to the bathroom. White tiles rising on a porcelain shore, Turning my bathroom into an all-out war! Faucet running water, howling at the stream, Screaming at the showerhead like a wet-rat dream! Flailing with your claws, biting at the spray, Soaking up my clothes by the middle of the day! Just four wet paws and a lot of spite, PICKING A FIGHT WITH A FAUCET ALL NIGHT! CLAWS OUT? I'M DONE! THIS BATTLE WAS LOST AND NOBODY WON! Soaked to the skin, adding to my therapy bill— STILL THINKING YOU'RE THE KNIGHT OF THE WINDOWSILL? HEY! HEY! LET'S CALL A TRUCE! NO MORE DRAMA AND NO MORE ABUSE! Shaking off water all over the floor— I CAN'T TAKE THIS MORNING MAYHEM ANYMORE! Wrapped in a towel, shivering and cold, Giving me the silent, lethal death glare. Beyond the glass, those wings unfold... The pigeon flies away without a care. I definitely need a drink. Yeah, yeah... back on your pillow you go. ...I love you, you little monster.
