06-The Man I Was

I spent so many years trying to destroy my past... But maybe I was looking at it the wrong way. Maybe that person wasn't my enemy. Maybe he was just someone trying to survive. I remember the days when I didn't know my worth, when I carried my pain like a curse on this earth. I was searching for answers in places I shouldn't, trying to be someone that I probably couldn't. I made mistakes, I lost control, I let the anger take over my soul. I built walls so high nobody could reach, forgot the lessons pain was trying to teach. I judged that man when I looked in the mirror, only saw the flaws, only saw the errors. But now I understand what he was going through, he was fighting battles with the tools he knew. He wasn't weak because he fell apart, he was wounded but still had a beating heart. Every wrong turn, every broken road, was another chapter of the story I wrote. I don't hate the man I was, I don't run from yesterday. He carried me through the darkness when I couldn't find a way. To the man I was, I forgive you now, for every mistake, for every broken vow. You were lost, but you kept moving on, you were searching for light when the hope was gone. To the man I was, I see you clear, I understand every hidden fear. You weren't my weakness, you were my start, you were the first chapter of my heart. I remember every night I questioned my name, every moment I felt trapped inside the pain. I wanted to erase every scar I earned, forget every lesson, every bridge I burned. But time showed me something I couldn't see, the past was never meant to imprison me. The person I was built the road I walk, he gave me the strength to continue the fight. I don't need to rewrite those pages anymore, I don't need to pretend I never hit the floor. Because every fall and every defeat, created the person that you see today. So if I could speak to my younger self, I'd tell him he was stronger than he felt. The storm will end, the wounds will heal, one day you'll understand what is real. Thank you... For surviving the moments I thought would destroy me. Thank you... For refusing to disappear. I don't have to fight my past anymore. I can finally walk beside it.
