The Mighty Zorp
[Verse 1] The skies turned sickly green that fateful night A fleet of silver saucers, what a sight! They blocked the moon and hummed a dreadful tune From Venus, Mars, or some forgotten moon The mayor screamed, the general made his plans While shiny ships descended on our lands We hid inside our tract homes, locked the door And prayed they wouldn't want to go to war They came from deep in space to take our world Their laser beams and tentacles unfurled The mighty Zorp, their leader, cold and grand To crush the silly creatures of this land The Human Race was finished, it was clear The end of everything we held so dear! [Verse 2] A ramp came down with a metallic creak A tripod alien, thin and sleek With one big eye that pulsed a bloody red It scanned the thoughts inside a newsman's head It watched our leaders shouting on the screen And looked at all the places in between The Zorp just floated, silent and intent To understand the planet where they'd been sent [Verse 3] They saw a banker laughing, getting rich While someone starved to death down in a ditch They saw the men in charge take greasy bribes And turn their backs on their own starving tribes They watched us build new bombs and bigger guns To use against our neighbors and our sons Their single eye just blinked, a puzzled stare At all the needless sorrow and despair The mighty Zorp convened his council fleet "Their weapons," said a sub-commander, "can be beat!" But Zorp just shook his giant, wobbly head "Their weapons are for other humans," Zorp then said. "They poison their own water, foul their air, And let their weakest die without a care. We thought they were intelligent, you see, A threat to our galactic supremacy." They came from deep in space to take our world Their laser beams and tentacles unfurled The mighty Zorp, their leader, cold and grand To crush the silly creatures of this land But now they looked confused and scratched their domes And started plotting courses for their homes The silver saucers lifted from the ground Without a single, solitary sound They vanished back to where they were before They didn't want a planet this darn poor In spirit, sense, and basic, simple thought We just weren't smart enough to be fought.
