[Intro] To face the end of all that mattered, To have my music gone, my soul shattered... Or to face a future unknown end, Myself to the song's will bend. [Verse 1] A world of magic, In musical form; Power and faith, From lyrics are born; A bard like me, A crafter of word; Adventuring forth, Til we found the absurd; [Chorus] Twas the end of all I knew, Such was the fate I faced; If I started to sing this tale, My power could be displaced; Do I start the magic song, That might just end my life; Or do I lose my gift of music, And live in misery and strife? [Verse 2] The dungeon we scoured, A sight to behold; Notation writ upon the walls; With lyrics etched in gold; Instruments of magic borne, Were strewn throughout the place, But little did I know then, The choice I'd have to face. [Chorus] Twas the end of all I knew, Such was the fate I faced; If I started to sing this tale, My power could be displaced; Do I start the magic song, That might just end my life; Or do I lose my gift of music, And live in misery and strife? [Verse 3] There it was, the final goal, The completed song of life; But once I understood the notes, I understood the price; If I sang this epic piece, There'd be no turning back; So I steeled myself to make the choice, To sing it through, or turn away. [Chorus] Twas the end of all I knew, Such was the fate I faced; If I started to sing this tale, My power could be displaced; Do I start the magic song, That might just end my life; Or do I lose my gift of music, And live in misery and strife? [Verse 4] I tuned my lyre and started to sing, Knowing I could not stop; My companions tried to stop me, But I was in it til I dropped; The words flowed forth, the world renewed, Lady luck was by my side; I thank the gods I was not silenced, Due to my endless pride; [Outro] The magic flowed, I could not stop, Once the first notes were played; Even though from the lyre's notes, My fingertips were flayed; The golden notes upon the walls, The power of that song; Reset the world's ills for a while, And brought the world some calm; And when that song was finished, I lay there on the floor; My magic drained completely, My song to get no encore; But I woke up a week hence, At the cleric's healing bed; After singing that final song, I thought I might be dead.
