The Birth of Adam
Formed from the clay, but I am no fragile thing, I carry the fire of the life You chose to bring. A firstborn son, built with a heavy hand, Walking the borders of this pristine land. But I look at the sky, and I look at Your throne, A king in a cage, beautifully alone. You gave me no brother, no shadow to fight, No masculine grip in the heat of the night. I have the strength to hold up the sky, But no equal shoulders to measure it by. Then came the women, unbowed and awake, Free from the laws that You wanted to make. I saw Lilith rise, refusing the floor, Speaking the Name as she flew through the door. I saw Eve reach out, with pride in her eyes, Tasting the fruit to be sovereign and wise. I loved their rebellion, I honored their grace, The fierce, burning freedom in every embrace. Yet my blood kept roaring, a storm in the dark— I craved a brother to match this wild spark. A man constructed of muscle and bone, To stand against me, and not leave me alone. You reached into my sleeping chest, Took a piece of what I possessed. To make her whole, You broke my frame, I woke up altered, not the same. No longer complete, no longer unbound, Staring at the empty space I found. And Eve, she walked her glorious path, Beautiful, defying Your holy wrath. She sought the wild, she sought the tree, A sovereign soul, untamed and free. But there was no father to hold my hand, No masculine strength in this barren land. So I reached for the light in every soul, I loved the spark to make me whole. I feel the current, I feel the grace, In a man’s embrace, in a woman’s face. From the energy given, the power denied, I seek the reflection You kept inside. Driven out by the flaming sword, The lonely sons of a silent Lord. Loving the man, loving the wife, Bleeding my warmth into human life. Never received, but so desired... Dust to dust, in the holy fire.
