[Intro] Heave on the dark water The dark water heaves back [Verse 1] First came the school with the smiling jaws A dozen dorsal knives They didn’t circle like the stories said They came in working lines We threw them meat to buy an hour They wanted the hour and the men [Call and Response] All the mouths below! (All the mouths below!) Don’t count the fins you see All the mouths below! (All the mouths below!) The count is a lie to me [Verse 2] Then the water turned to rope and ink A mantle blocked the moon The sharks broke off like they had been told In order to make room Arms thick as yards came over the rail And searched the deck for a tune [Call and Response] All the mouths below! (All the mouths below!) The squid is only the door All the mouths below! (All the mouths below!) There’s a landlord under the floor [Verse 3] Last thing wasn’t teeth or hook It was a hush the size of a hold The sharks ran. The kraken let go. The sea itself went cold Something opened that had no edge And the ship forgot to float [Bridge] Name the shark Name the squid Name the wreck Don’t name the lid If the water starts to think your name Stop singing Start to sink [Final Call] All the mouths below All the mouths below Save your breath They already share it All the mouths below
