Chased by the Hound of Heaven
[Verse 1- female voice with soft vocals] I grew up in quiet pews, stained glass and soft light, Lutheran hymns every Sunday, everything polite. But a board opened the darkness, and the darkness answered back, Ouija fingers on my soul, put me on a midnight track. Demons rode me hard and heavy, wouldn’t let me go, Till the courts shipped me off to a place I didn’t know. [Verse 2- female voice with soft vocals] They sat me in those wooden chairs, told me listen to the man, I clamped my hands over my ears, said “I won’t, I never can.” But the words kept coming stronger, though his voice stayed low and kind, Cut straight through flesh and bone, talking to this troubled mind. Every week the same old war—me fighting, Him still calling, Till I broke and told the house-dad, “Alright… I’ll hear the teaching.” [Verse 3- female voice with soft vocals] I poured out every question my old church never could explain, Hell and heaven, tongues and demons, every link in Satan’s chain. He never blinked, he never rushed, just answered one by one, Like he already knew the battle before the fight begun. Then he looked me in the eye and said, “Child, it’s simple, here’s the door— Pray this prayer and mean it, and you’ll be His forevermore.” [Chorus- female voice with soft vocals] That night I hit my knees alone, just a scared girl in a bunk, “Jesus, forgive this mess I’ve made, take this heart that’s come unstrung.” And something like a heavy stone rolled right off my chest, Air rushed in, light poured down, and my soul finally found rest. He’d been chasing, chasing, chasing through the dark I’d run into— Till the Hound of Heaven caught His wild lamb, And the wild lamb said, “I do.” [Verse 4 - female voice with soft vocals] Days later in a canvas tent, two sleek liars came at night, Dressed in counterfeit glory, whispering “Come back to the fight.” I screamed one Name, just one Name, the only Name I knew to scream— “JESUS!” and the tent caught fire with a glory never seen. They fled like smoke, the angels roared, Heaven kissed my face that night, The chase was over, I was sealed in blood-bought grace and light. [Bridge – Call & Response style - female voice with soft vocals] (Leader) He never tamed the wild in me— (Choir) He just turned the wild around! (Leader) Now I run for Him, not from Him— (Choir) Tearing enemy camps down! (Leader) Every song, every warning, every 2 a.m. word on fire— (Choir) Is the echo of the chase that caught this runaway entire! [Final Chorus- female voice with soft vocals] He chased me down through demons’ lies, through questions, shame, and fear, He chased me till I had no choice but to let the Savior near. A thousand hells had claimed me theirs, but Love outran them all, The wildest olive ever grafted hears her Shepherd when He calls. He’s still chasing, chasing, chasing, but now I’m running too— Straight into the arms that caught me, And they’ll never let me go. [Outro – Deep male voice with choir underneath] She’s Mine now… She won’t be tamed… I chased her, caught her, renamed her… And the wild one bears My name.
