[Intro] [Soft Female Vocal] Every evening, just the same I fix my hair and call his name Two little plates, two cups of tea My darling's always home with me [Verse 1] I put my favorite lipstick on And play our old favorite love song I take my seat across from him And smile to see him there again He used to wander, used to roam I never knew when he'd come home But all those restless days are through Now every evening's just us two [Pre-Chorus] The neighbors ask where he has been They haven't seen him out since then I smile and say he's doing fine He just likes to stay with me inside [Chorus] He never leaves me Isn't that sweet? Always right here In his favorite seat No more goodbyes No more wondering when He never leaves me He won't leave again [Verse 2] He isn't hungry like before Won't touch my cooking anymore Funny, his last meal tasted strange That's when his wandering ways all changed He took one bite and turned so pale His once strong hands grew weak and frail I held him as he slipped away Now he’ll never stray another day [Pre-Chorus] They're asking questions more and more Some gentlemen came to our door They said they'd like to just pop in But I wouldn't let them bother him [Chorus] He never leaves me Isn't that sweet? Always right here In his favorite seat No more goodbyes No more wondering when He never leaves me He won't leave again [Instrumental Break] [Upright Bass] [Brushed Drums] [Tremolo Guitar] [Soft Wordless Backing Vocals] [Bridge] There's such a funny smell in here It's gotten stronger, that much is clear I light a candle, crack the door Not sure how much more I can endure His complexion isn't what it was But time will change the best of us I powder both his cheeks just right And straighten up his tie so tight [Soft Female Vocal] He swore that we would never part Then strayed and broke my trusting heart Some girls might simply let love die But I'm not one to say goodbye [Final Chorus] He never leaves me Isn't that sweet? Always right here In his favorite seat No more goodbyes No more wondering when He never leaves me He won't leave again He never leaves me Just like he swore He doesn't wander Out through that door Forever together Just like back then He never leaves me He won't leave again [Outro] [Soft Wordless Backing Vocals] Two little plates Two cups of tea My darling's always Home with me [Soft Female Vocal] Always.
