The Two-Step Process

The Two-Step Process (A song of warning and witness) [Verse 1] Aaron stood when Moses stayed, The people cried, “Make gods today!” He took their gold, the earrings bright, Fashioned a calf in the fire’s light. “These be thy gods,” the people sang, While on the mount the true Word rang. One step of sin, the idol rose— A molten calf where pure faith goes. [Chorus] Two by two the Lord still sends, Side by side till journey’s end. One may falter, one may stand, Yet both walk under the Master’s hand. Aaron made it, Moses burned— Two steps the lesson we have learned. Jesus sends us two by two, To keep His faith and see it through. [Verse 2] Moses came with tables true, Saw the calf and the dancing crew. His anger burned, the stone was broke, He took the calf the people spoke. Burned it in fire, ground it fine, Scattered the powder in the wine. They drank the dust of their own shame— The second step that bore His Name. [Chorus] Two by two the Lord still sends, Side by side till journey’s end. One may falter, one may stand, Yet both walk under the Master’s hand. Aaron made it, Moses burned— Two steps the lesson we have learned. Jesus sends us two by two, To keep the faith and see it through. [Verse 3] Jesus looked upon the field, Sent them out with power to yield. Two by two, no purse, no staff, To preach the kingdom, heal the half. Where one might stray or grow afraid, The other lifts the hands that prayed. No golden calf, no molten lie— Just Christ alone beneath the His sky. [Bridge] One step can lead the heart astray, The next can burn the idol away. So walk together, watch and pray, For Jesus sends us two made One we are Day. [Final Chorus} Two by two the Lord still sends, Side by side till journey’s end. One may falter, one may stand, Yet both walk under the Master’s hand. Aaron made it, Moses burned— Two steps the lesson we have learned. Jesus sends us two by two, To keep His faith… and see it through. (Softly, repeating) Two by two… two by two… Keep the faith and see it through.
