Passed the same gas station twice Didn't notice till the second light Radio's talking to nobody Hands just keeping me between the lines I know this road I've known it for years But somewhere after the overpass the pavement turned to dirt again Dust behind the truck Heat coming through the glass For half a second I swear I'm waiting for the radio to crack Then a horn pulls me back Wrong lane Wrong side of town How the hell did I get here? You weren't lost You were remembering Keep going There's nothing back there worth waking up for anyway Another missed turn Another mile gone Streetlights keep trying to pull me along I see where I'm going then lose it again Like something keeps moving the road in my head There's a light up ahead I swear I've seen before But every time I get close I'm somewhere else once more Red light I'm staring through it Guy behind me lays on the horn I throw a hand up "My bad" Like I just zoned out Like that's all it was Drive past the grocery store Past the turn for home Past the church with the light still on Even though the lot's almost empty Something in me notices Something else says don't look Keep your eyes forward You already know what happens when you start believing there's something waiting for you Take another lap I need to get home Home didn't fix you I know Then keep driving Another missed turn Another mile gone Streetlights keep trying to pull me along I see where I'm going then lose it again Like something keeps moving the road in my head There's a light up ahead I swear I've seen before And every time I get close I'm somewhere else once more DIRT ROAD WHITE FLASH RADIO CALL RIGHT BACK BLINK ONCE LOSE TEN COME BACK DO IT AGAIN DON'T STOP DON'T THINK YOU KNOW THIS ROAD BETTER THAN YOU THINK I pull into a parking lot and kill the engine No idea why I'm here Just breathing with both hands on the wheel Across the road one light is still burning Nothing calling my name Nothing asking me to come in Just there Another missed turn Another mile gone Maybe the road hasn't moved at all Maybe I'm the one still somewhere behind watching nine months play through the windshield There's a light up ahead Leave it. I don't. I start the car And this time I make the turn You'll miss the next one.
