Berks to Bucks (The Grand Tour S01E09)

[Intro] (Electronic synthesizer pulsating, heavy industrial drum beat, sharp distorted guitar riff cuts in) [Verse 1] The big white tent has crossed the German border line Stuttgart is cheering, the weather is so fine The home of great engines and precision design The trio takes the stage to start the new line [Verse 2] But first we travel back to the Eboladrome track Where a Japanese hybrid is ready to attack The brand new Honda NSX is waiting in the grey To see if high technology can win the race today [Verse 3] Three electric motors and a twin-turbo Vsix A complicated puzzle of mechanical tricks James May is behind the wheel, smiling at the speed It has no turbo lag, it fits a modern need [Verse 4] It launches like a rocket, it grips the wet tarmac A quiet revolution that leaves a smoky track But Captain Slow is arguing with Jeremy tonight About the computer systems and if the feeling's right [Verse 5] Now Jeremy has an idea, a very foolish spark To solve the charging problem when the world is getting dark Electric cars are useless when the battery goes dead He wants to charge them on the move, with a crazy plan instead [Verse 6] He takes a heavy SUV and mounts a generator high Then drives behind a small electric car beneath the sky He tries to plug a cable in while moving down the road A dangerous experiment that’s bound to explode [Verse 7] The cars are shaking violently, the cables start to twist A comedy of errors that the highway police missed Jeremy is shouting, the sparks are flying bright But the battery is charging in the middle of the night [Verse 8] Then Richard Hammond enters with a dark and paranoid stare He thinks the world is ending and there’s danger everywhere He wants a vehicle to survive the final nuclear blast A bugout machine that is built to bloody last [Verse 9] He takes an old Volkswagen van and armor-plates the shell With spikes upon the bumper to drive right through to hell It has a water filter and a kitchen in the back Ready for the zombies when they start their first attack [Verse 10] They take the survival cars out to a muddy field To see if Richard's armor-plating will refuse to yield Jeremy and James arrive in regular old cars To mock the little Hamster and his crazy doomsday stars [Verse 11] They shoot at Richard's vehicle with water and with fire They throw a mattress at it to destroy the spinning tire The armor-plated camper van is struggling in the muck The survivalist experiment has run completely out of luck [Verse 12] The engine starts to overheat, the bodywork is bent The zombie-proof machine is looking battered, torn and spent Richard is still arguing that his idea was grand While standing in the ruins of his heavily armored van [Verse 13] Back inside the Stuttgart tent, they look at all the fun The German crowd is laughing at the things the boys have done The conversation turns to beer and driving on autobahn Where speed limits are missing until the early dawn [Verse 14] In Celebrity Brain Crash, a German star is found Nena is walking across the studio ground But ninety-nine red balloons lift her up too high She disappears forever in the windy winter sky [Verse 15] The lap times are recorded, the NSX was fast The charging experiments are over with at last Three middle-aged presenters have survived another day Without a major breakdown or a police car in their way [Verse 16] They pack the heavy equipment, the tents are coming down Moving the traveling circus to another foreign town The Grand Tour truck is rolling, the highway is so wide With horsepower and comedy traveling by their side [Verse 17] So raise a glass to Stuttgart, the industrial rock is done The ninth chapter is finished beneath the setting sun With hybrid speed and bugout vans, the engines roar out loud The grandest tour continues, making petrolheads so proud [Outro] (Heavy techno-rock synth solo, driving metal guitar riff, electronic laser sounds, final loud drum crash fading out)
