[verse 1] As the stars gave way to the golden hue, Of the gentle morn, a radiant view; Free from slumber, my eager heart; Rifled through plans for the journey to start. [verse 2] Carved were there paths to varied abodes; Adorned with gems despite stormy roads. My heart was fastened on the glow of each door; And I dreamt of doing all in hours score and four. [verse 3] From the door the charm it gleaming spread; Stretching with grace like binding threads. The sun rose higher as the day grew bright; While here I am bound by countless lights. [Verse 4] To seal one choice I wracked my mind; But narrowing my eyes seemed a deed unkind. For if all doors glowed like stars thus fair; How can I hurl away the drab that was not there? [verse 5] The sun now shone too hot overhead; And something within me began simmering red. For I have tarried too long before these enchanting rays; But time shall not heed my tangled stay. [verse 6] The sun began westering amidst my woes; While I am stranded in my yearning to feel all glows. If night could weight for a few hours more, My heart might tell me what to do with the doors. [outro] With a racing heart I flew towards a door; As the sun sank lower than ever before. With relief and pain I end this day; Hoping that the glows yet untouched shall not whither away.
