Scorched Earth

I breathe in sparks, let the fever grow, A fragile flame in the embers glow. One careless thought ignites the coal, The fire climbs and takes control. Kindling hides beneath my skin, The smallest spark invites it in. Every heartbeat stokes the flame, Feeding something I can't tame. My mind's a furnace, It bellows and screams... Every whisper feeds the blaze, Every heartbeat fans the flames. I become fire... I consume, I decay... Set my world ablaze, When joy slips away. This sickness keeps striking matches, Till nothing's left but ashes. I burn to embers 'til there's nothing left. The rage burns out... and I'm hollow... bereft. The flames don't stop beneath my skin, They reach for everyone stepping in. I hear my voice, but it's not mine, Just molten anger crossing the line. Walls collapse beneath the heat. Broken trust beneath my feet. I watch the people I love retreat... While I wage war with what's underneath. I curse the fire when it leaves me cold. Curse myself for losing control. When the smoke begins to clear... The truth's too hard to bear. I become fire... I consume, I decay... The people I love Get caught in the blaze. This sickness feeds the rage, And care goes up in flames. The fury burns out... and guilt remains. I'm cold enough to finally feel the pain. Burn everything! Feed the flame! It whispers, "Just let it out..." Until there's nothing... Left. But silence... The embers die. Nothing left But blackened sky. My hands are covered... Not in blood, but soot. Every touch a reminder Of damage I wrought. I become fire... I consume, I decay... Every bridge I crossed, Reduced to ashen gray. Happiness flickers... Then disappears. The fire survives... Despite the weight of my tears. Wither. Blister. Burn. Repeal. The fire always takes More than it heals. When the embers finally fade... I'm left rebuilding... My Scorched Earth.
