[Verse 1] There it sat Lost to time Old plane sleeping Under cobweb lines On that closed-down field Runways under dust Grass through concrete Paint gone to rust "Leave it Kid Let it die" "It's nothing special It'll never fly" You smiled that sad smile Eyes on the door "Guess we could call a museum Let 'em make it a floor" [Pre-Chorus] But then your gaze changed Like you heard it breathe You brushed the tail Wiped your hand on your sleeve (yeah) [Chorus] Everybody said "Just let it go" But your eyes got that old wild glow "The price is right Might give it a go" (hey) Two souls One wreck And a long-shot sky If it only jumps once At least we try You said "Some things are born Just to fly Just to fly" [Verse 2] Took two days To get her to roll Freed stuck cables Bled old ghosts from the hull You cursed at the bolts Laughed at your knees Oil on your glasses Wind in the trees Coffee at midnight Hands gone black You read out the logbook Like a paperback "Last flight '89 Flew straight and true" You tapped the yellowed page Said "I bet she still do" (oh) [Chorus] Everybody said "Just let it go" But your eyes had that stubborn glow "The price is right Might give it a go" Two fools One dream And a patchwork sky If it only jumps once At least we try You said "Some things are born Just to fly Just to fly" [Bridge] Morning mist On an untaxed strip You kissed your thumb Pressed it to the tip Prop swung slow Then faster round Cough Then thunder Shaking the ground I watched you taxi Over buried lines Where the runways slept Under weeds and time You bumped the throttle She raised her nose For one split second The whole world froze [Chorus] Everybody said "Just let it go" But we floated past their quiet "no" Steel and will in a sideways glow One breath One lift In a broken sky Wheels left earth just long enough to fly You laughed "Some things are born Just to fly Just to fly" [Outro] Then back to grass Engine sighing down You touched the dash Like a sacred crown On that closed-down field Under low gray light You whispered "You still got it You still got flight"
