Classical Music and the Universe
Classical music isn’t everyone’s thing, and truth be told, I rarely swing to symphonies - yet some remain so timeless, vast, and clear in tone, they touch a place we all have known. When I lean back and close my eyes, such mighty sounds begin to rise, and suddenly I drift through space - the universe, its birth, its pace. From Big Bang’s spark, so fierce and bright, to swelling worlds in newborn light. **Refrain:** *The long, long wait was worth the climb,* *the long, long wait was worth the time.* That ancient energy had a source, a cosmic, ever‑flowing force. As cooling ages passed us by, matter formed beneath the sky. It gathered, spun, and shaped the night - galaxies blooming into sight. Stars were born, their fires fed hydrogen to helium red, to carbon, oxygen - and then, perhaps even strawberry jam again. **Refrain:** *The long, long wait was worth the climb,* *the long, long wait was worth the time.* Many stars burst wide apart, as if destruction were an art - their scattered seeds across the dark left iron, cobalt, iodine’s spark. Water, gold, uranium too, and High C notes that cut right through a windowpane if they decide to let their ringing voice collide. **Refrain:** *The long, long wait was worth the climb,* *the long, long wait was worth the time.* Then I think of humankind: iron in blood, carbon aligned, water, nitrogen, oxygen - the things that make us what we’ve been. Inside the skull, warm mush resides, yet from that mush, creation glides - music so wondrous, bold, and true, like what we’re hearing as we do. Made by humans, born from cells that climbed through life’s evolving wells, from stardust forged in ancient flame to beings seeking sound’s acclaim - harmonies that intertwine, a single whole in pure design. **Bridge:** I must admit: the wait was fine - thirteen billion years in line don’t seem so long when all of this unfolds in one melodic kiss. **Refrain:** *The long, long wait was worth the climb,* *the long, long wait was worth the time.* And somewhere out in cosmic streams there lies a world of pistachio dreams - a planet made of ice cream green. It’s time we find that distant scene. So let’s set out - let’s go, let’s see what waits within eternity.
