Pie, Sweet Pie
Blueberry from Maine Summer on a plate Purple on my fingers Dripping as I wait Apple from the orchards Grown way Upstate Cinnamon and butter I can hardly wait Which pie is better? Haven't got a clue Ya' know I gotta' have it If it’s baked sweet and true It's Real sugar please From the Plains to the Coast From the North to the Keys Nothin' fake in there Keep that phony sweet poison I don’t want it anywhere Peach down in Georgia Sticky summer air Juices on my knuckles Sunlight in my hair Key lime in the islands Along the Florida shore Tangy little tremble Had me beggin’ for more Serve it plain and naked Or serve it ala-a mode Serve it warm Serve it chilled On a plate or in my hand Just don’t twist the recipe With chemicals inside Blueberries by the bucket Apples stacked high Peaches soft as whispers Limes that make me sigh But if you swap that sugar For a lab-made lie I’ll push my plate away Sayin' a tearful goodbye Which pie is better? Each in its time Blueberry in April Peach all summer long Apple deep in August Winter for key lime Blueberry, apple, peach or Key lime Just make it with real sugar And I'll be right there Don't give me that artificial stuff
