[title: LIVING STREAMS IN A BARREN LAND] [Verse 1 — tender, searching] I carried pain that no one knew, A hidden ache I couldn’t soothe. They said that Jesus held the key, So I went to His house to be set free. But all I found was a false veneer, A desert dream that disappeared. They promised water for my soul; I left still thirsty, far from whole. [Verse 2] “Repeat this prayer; be baptized.” I held their promises with desperate eyes. I followed their TRADITIONS OF MEN, But carried the torment home again. I longed for streams to enter in, To be immersed and live again. “A sprinkle for you will do,” they said; The water touched me; the anguish stayed. [Pre-Chorus — gathering emotion] Like a lost sheep on a ledge, I cried out from the crumbling edge: “My Prince of Peace, where can You be? Wonderful Counsellor, answer me.” [Chorus — flowing, heartfelt] Living streams in a barren land, Let Your mercy reach me where I am. Through the shame and fear, let Your waters run; Bring this weary heart to life again. My Advocate, my Comforter, My Healer, my Deliverer, Jesus, come restore my soul; Let Your living waters make me whole. [Spoken Response — gentle, over a continuous instrumental] Then, deep within my aching heart, A still, small voice came clear: “I was not welcome there to lead; They held control and would not yield. ‘The pot roast can’t burn, don’t You know?’ They watched the clock and told Me no. “My Spirit stirred what shame concealed; They turned from all that I revealed. They would not let My Law shine in And name the darkness I call sin. “They turned away the milk of My Word; How could they bear the stronger meat? They kept their walls when I withdrew, But living water wasn’t flowing through.” [Verse 3 — hope awakening] Day after day, I searched for You, Still holding on to what I knew. Then in a truckers’ parking lot, You met me where I’d least have thought. A stranger gave me a ride back home And spoke of the Jesus they had known— The living gospel, Your Spirit near; A spark of hope broke through my fear. [Verse 4 — building] The oil of joy began to flow Through places frozen, numb, and cold. The KEYS OF THE KINGDOM turned for me; The shackles loosened; I could breathe. The FORM OF GODLY-NESS had failed To break the chains that held me jailed. But now Your living truth broke through, And hope began to bloom anew. [Chorus — assurance] Living streams in a barren land, Now Your mercy meets me where I am. Through the shame and fear, let Your waters run; Bring this weary heart to life again. My Advocate, my Comforter, My Healer, my Deliverer, Jesus, You restore my soul; Your living waters make me whole. [Bridge — the promise, gradually swelling] “When the poor and needy thirst, When their tongues can find no words, I, the LORD, will hear their cry; I will not leave My people dry. “On barren heights, My rivers rise; My springs will fill the valleys wide. Where desert dust has parched the ground, My pools of water will be found.” [Final Chorus — open, full] Living streams in a barren land, Let Your mercy flow through willing hands. To the thirsty soul, let Your waters run; Bring the broken heart to life again. Christ within, the hope of glory, Let Your love pour out through me. Make my life a vessel You can fill; Let Your living waters overflow. [Outro — tender declaration] To the thirsty, broken, dying, Let me carry what You’ve poured: “Come alive in Jesus’ name! Be made whole and be restored.” Overflow the riverbanks; Find the fields still dry with thirst. Wake the seeds beneath the ground; Let them bloom and bring forth fruit.
