Verse 1 Before we ever took a breath, Someone built the roads we walk. Someone planted trees whose shade They’d never know at all. We inherited their triumphs, We inherited their scars. We didn’t choose the world they left… But right now the story’s ours. Chorus We are the ancestors. We are tomorrow’s yesterday. Every choice we make right now Echoes beyond the grave. One day our story will be over, So before this moment’s through, What kind of history are we making? The future starts with me and you. Verse 2 Every lesson that we taught, Every hand we reached to hold, Every bridge we dared to build, Every truth we bravely told. Someone living years from now Will be standing where we stand. They may never know our names… But they’ll walk the path we planned. Chorus We are the ancestors. We are tomorrow’s yesterday. Every choice we make right now Echoes beyond the grave. One day our story will be over, So before this moment’s through, What kind of history are we making? The future starts with me and you. Bridge One day someone will take their first breath, Never knowing who we were. Still they’ll rest beneath the branches Of the trees we chose to nurture. May they find more hope than hatred, More compassion than fear. May they harvest seeds we planted Long after we’re not here. Final Chorus We are the ancestors. We are tomorrow’s yesterday. Every choice we make right now Echoes beyond the grave. One day our story will be over, So before this moment’s through, What kind of history are we making? The future starts with me and you. We are the ancestors.
