Clock hit midnight... My shift was finally done. I hang my jacket by the doorway, As I shut the world outside. Kick my shoes to the corner, Pull off this tired old tie. Feels like heaven to be home again, Another long day gone by. Poured something smooth and easy, Nothing fancy... just enough. Found a little unwinding music, To finish out the night Every note just melts the tension, Every melody feels right. Funny how some soothing music Turns the darkness into light. Grab a bowl of salty peanuts Maybe crackers and some cheese Tonight belongs to easy moments, While the music carries me through. Sippin' something smooth and easy, Let that old sax softly play Here's to all us second shifters ... Finally calling it a day. Turned on the music ... Turned off the cellphone ... There's no place so welcome ... There's just no place quite like home.
