[Intro / Hook] Matthew Perna — a name America needs to know Got a story that should never go Life cut short, hearts left broke By a system that turned on its own [Verse 1] He stood for a country that felt like it was slipping away Didn’t know how deep it ran when he showed up that day Went to D.C. on January 6 thinking he was fighting for it Ended up convicted of a crime he didn’t commit Forced to quit, the pressure got too heavy to hold Hung himself while the charges still hung over his soul Wronged by a system that looks completely counterfeit And leaders full of bullshit who never felt a bit of it [Chorus] Matthew Perna — a name America needs to know Got a story that should never go Life cut short, hearts left broke By a system that turned on its own [Verse 2] His Tia’s my friend and I’m proud to stand with her She’s got a spirit that refuses to surrender Love of country running real through her blood and her fight She keeps his name alive so it doesn’t fade into the night A man’s life ended quick and it should make you sick Broke his family open, left a hole that won’t get fixed Matthew Perna’s name belongs in the light, not buried in the dark So we say it loud and we keep it sharp [Chorus] Matthew Perna — a name America needs to know Got a story that should never go Life cut short, hearts left broke By a system that turned on its own [Outro] America, it’s time to rise up and take back this country From those within and outside it
