[Women’s choir] Oy... ai... Oy... ai... [Long instrumental] [Rusalka] Green water. Black hair. Moon caught in the reeds. Do not call me, boy on the bank. I have no road back home. [Women’s choir] Oy... oy... Ai... ai... [Long instrumental] [Rusalka] Once I wore a red ribbon. Once my feet knew the road. Now the lilies close above me. Now the river knows my name. [Women’s choir] Oy... ai... Rusalka... Oy... ai... [Instrumental] [Rusalka] You hear singing. You come nearer. The water is cold. Still... you come. [Women’s choir, rising] Ai... ai... Oy... oy... Rusalka... Rusalka... [Long instrumental] [Rusalka, softly] Leave your shoes beneath the willow. You will not need them here. [Women’s choir, fading] Oy... ai... Oy... ai... [Long instrumental opening] [Women’s choir, distant] Ai... ai... O... io... Ai... ai... [Medusa] Do not wake them. Grass grows in their mouths. Flowers between their hands. This one brought a spear. This one brought a sword. I remember their eyes. [Women’s choir] Ai... ai... Gorgo... Gorgo... O... io... O... io... [Long instrumental passage] [Medusa] The serpents wake. A step upon the rock. Silence. Another step. [Women’s choir, low] Ai... ai... Do not turn... Do not turn... [Instrumental passage] [Medusa] There, among the olives... Bronze catches the sun. So. They taught you not to look at me. [Women’s choir, rising] Gorgo... Gorgo... Ai... ai... ai... [Long instrumental passage] [Medusa] Stranger, in the shield you carry... I see my face. [Pause] How strange. I had forgotten it. [Women’s choir] Stone flowers... Stone flowers... Ai... ai... O... io... [Medusa, very softly] Do not wake them. [Long instrumental outro] [Women’s choir, fading] Ai... Ai... Gorgo...
