The Ballad of Skip Hayden, drinking song
At seventeen he went to war (That's very young!) When hostile ships came bearing down He fought through foes and wanted more His father died with honor's crown So he decided peace was best Find colonies that time forgot And bring them home to join the rest (This is his lot!) Now he's running through No Man's Land Where there are no men or women fair But humans plenty, strange and grand And lots of them want his blood to spare (It's really quite unfair!) He's running through No Man's Land With kings and mages by his side What is it with their magic unplanned? (He cannot decide!) An ambassador sent to treat But slavery made the compact void Assassins came while in retreat Through magic portal was deployed (This plan was quite ill-employed!) He's running through No Man's Land Fighting wolves and tyrant's band What is that beast? So fierce and grand! (It's bigger than planned!) He's running through No Man's Land In ice and snow, not lost quite yet Though he'd sure like his homeland (That's a safe bet!) He's got sword and dagger, zapper too Death in both hands, what can't he do? (His feet are deadly too!) An unvanquished heart beats strong He fights for friends, rights every wrong If anyone can make it through (He surely can!) He's a man you'd never bet against Even when he's very confused (But he's not convinced!) Through it all he stands his ground Still undefeated, safe and sound (Even when confused!) He's running through No Man's Land Where his soul's truth will expand He's running through No Man's Land (To find himself!) In No Man's Land (His true self!) In No Man's Land!
