Paper 172 – Going into Jerusalem 🎢 Song: The Fragance and the Coin (Verse 1 – Bethany) The lamps were burning soft and low, In Bethany before the road, Outside the city waited fate, But love arrived before the gate. Lazarus sat among the guests, A living sign they could not silence yet, Martha served with faithful hands, While heaven moved through simple plans. The rulers watched from shadows deep, Their hatred waking from its sleep. (Verse 2 – Mary's Gift) She carried years of hidden dreams, Treasured oil and silent things, Saving every coin she earned, For one moment she had discerned. She saw beyond the crowd's acclaim, Beyond the promise of a kingly name, Something inside her seemed to know The hour had come to let it go. The fragrance filled the room that night, Like worship taking visible flight. (Chorus) One poured perfume. One counted coins. One gave her heart. One heard his voice. One saw a kingdom not of earth. One sought a throne of greater worth. The fragrance rose. The silence spoke. And in that room A soul awoke. (Verse 3 – The Accountant) He watched the perfume touch the floor, And measured what it could be sold for, Calculating loss and gain, Reducing love to numbers once again. His lips spoke of the needy poor, Yet something darker moved beneath the words, For hidden wounds left undisclosed Can slowly harden into stone. He walked beside the Living Way, Yet never learned how to truly pray. (Pre-Chorus) He spoke of others, their mistakes, Their weaknesses, their faults, their ways. But never brought his own heart near, Never laid down pride and fear. (Chorus) One poured perfume. One counted coins. One gave her heart. One heard his voice. One lost herself and became free. One built a cage no one could see. The fragrance rose. The shadows grew. The room divided Into two. (Bridge – The Master's Sorrow) The Master looked with patient eyes, Seeing beneath their thin disguise, Seeing a woman set apart, Seeing a storm inside a heart. No anger burned within his tone, Only truth that stood alone, Defending love before them all, Even knowing who would fall. For mercy warns before it grieves. And love still loves before one leaves. (Verse 4 – The Road to Jerusalem) The next day branches filled the road, Hosannas echoed as they strode, The city dreamed of crown and throne, While Jesus walked the path alone. They saw a king about to reign, He saw rejection, loss, and pain, They saw beginnings bright and fair, He saw a cross already there. (Final Chorus) One poured perfume. One counted coins. One found the kingdom. One made his choice. One gave everything she had. One surrendered to what made him sad. The fragrance stayed. The silver faded. Love was remembered. Ambition wasted. (Outro) In Bethany before the cross, Two hearts stood side by side. One opened completely. One closed completely. And both were changed forever.
