Mornings First Light

I walked down where the tide had gone, leaving ribbons in the sand The morning air was cool enough to rest against my skin No voices, No footprints, Only the hush of the water The first edge of the sun appeared quietly As though it had all the time in the world Light spilled slowly across the white sand Turning every grain silver and gold And I stood there alone, listening to the morning arrive While the long waves rolled gently in The sun finally lifted free from the horizon, large and orange And for one suspended moment everything seemed perfectly still An eagle opened its wings against the morning sky It rode the morning breeze as graceful as could be The water showed its hidden colors clear green and quiet blue Bright beneath the morning sun ... And the whole world seemed to breathe
