Nobody Come Home

[Verse 1] They think I'm making a scarf A sweater for the rain They think when I bind the last row I'll hand it off again So I sit where they can see And count each careful line (Click, click) By day I make it longer By night I take my time [Pre-Chorus] Pull the loop Let it slip Hide the work inside my grip They laugh and deal their poker cards While I keep one small hope [Chorus] I'm making this for Nobody Nobody, come home soon I'll knit until the stars go thin And unravel by the moon It'll never be finished It'll never be done 'Cause the only one it's for Is the only one who's gone I'm making this for Nobody Nobody, come home soon (Nobody, come home soon) [Verse 2] You think you've got me cornered With your grins and whiskey lies But I learned my tricks from someone Who could vanish in plain sight A needle and a promise A thread I can't let go (Click, click) I know how to keep a secret I know how to stall a road [Pre-Chorus] One more row One more night One more chance to keep the light You shuffle and you smirk at me But I keep moving on [Chorus] I'm making this for Nobody Nobody, come home soon Every row a day I borrowed Every knot a prayer I threw It'll never be finished It'll never be done 'Til the one I miss comes through that door And I can run to him I'm making this for Nobody Nobody, come home soon (Nobody, come home soon) [Bridge] The porch light blinked out last night I struck a match and prayed It fluttered like a warning Then it slipped back into gray So if you hear me calling It's not for these three fools It's for the boy beyond the dark Who left me with my wool [Chorus] I'm making this for Nobody Nobody, come home soon I'll knit until the stars go thin And unravel by the moon It'll never be finished It'll never be done 'Cause the only one it's for Is the only one who's gone I'm making this for Nobody Nobody, come home soon (Nobody, come home soon) [Outro] (Click, click) Almost (Click, click) Not yet
