[Verse 1] The mighty hall stood tall and proud As Hrothgar took my hand He spoke of years of stolen peace From the curse upon this land [Verse 2] I gave my word before them all No fear would make me step aside Tonight this hall will glow once more With hope still burning deep inside [Chorus] Waiting for the darkness Waiting for the night Waiting for the shadow to step into the light The laughter all around me Will soon give way to fear So I'm waiting for the darkness And I know he'll soon be here [Verse 3] The feast was filled with song and wine But every smile concealed their fear For all who sat beneath this roof Knows what follows nightfall here [Verse 4] The laughter slowly slipped away As one by one the voices ceased The hall grew quiet with the stars Preparing for the coming beast [Chorus] Waiting for the darkness Waiting for the night Waiting for the shadow to step into the light The laughter all around me Will soon give way to fear So I'm waiting for the darkness And I know he'll soon be here [Verse 5] The fires slowly burned down low The songs gave way to whispered prayer The ghosts of all the fallen ones Still lingered in the air [Verse 6) No sword rests here beside my hand No shield stands ready for the fight If Grendel trusts his strength alone Then so will I tonight [Chorus] Waiting for the darkness Waiting for the night Waiting for the shadow to step into the light The laughter all around me Will soon give way to fear So I'm waiting for the darkness And I know he'll soon be here [Chorus] Waiting for the darkness Waiting for the night Waiting for the shadow to step into the light The laughter all around me Will soon give way to fear So I'm waiting for the darkness And I know he'll soon be here
