°- Mood Indigo (1930) w/anc.
You ain't never felt blue; no, no, no, You ain't never been blue, Till you've got that mood indigo. The feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes As I just sit here and sigh, "Go 'long blues". It nest Go 'long blues Oh oh Mood indigo. It nest with me that mood indigo, Since my baby said goodbye. And in the evenin' when the lights go low, I'm so lonely I could cry. (Ahhhhh!) There's nobody gonna care about me, I'm just a poor fool that's bluer than blue can be. 'Cause I get that mood indigo (mood indigo), Want to lay me down and die (Die, die die die). Go 'long blues, Go 'long blues Yeah Go 'long blues Oh oh Mood indigo. Oh no, oh no Mood indigo. [Instrumental] And you think you've been blue; no, no, no, You ain't never been blue, You've not had that mood indigo. That feelin' sinks stealin' down to these shoes While I just sit here and sigh, "Go 'long blues". "Mood Indigo" is one of Duke Ellington's most significant jazz standards, but although the lyrics are officially credited to Duke Ellington's manager Irving Mills, but in a 1987 interview, lyricist Mitchell Parish (known for "Stardust") claimed he actually wrote the lyrics, though he was never officially credited. It was originally an instrumental titled "Dreamy Blues" and the lyrics were added later. After er receiving a flood of fan mail following the initial radio broadcast of "Dreamy Blues," the title was changed to "Mood Indigo" for commercial release in 1930.
