GCXC Road Race Rockaway Run

Sunny early-70s surf-pop vibes with tight Beach Boys–style harmonies, male vocals, Bright 12-string guitars and piano lock with a bouncy drum groove, tambourine on the backbeat, Verses stay loose and narrative, choruses explode with stacked vocals and wordless oohs, Modulated key change on the final chorus, clean reverb and a warm analog feel

[Verse 1] Alarm clock rings It’s barely light Number on my shirt Laced my racers tight Carpool crew crammed in Boards on the wall GCXC banner by the schoolyard hall [Chorus] GCXC road race Runnin’ by the bay Sun on our shoulders Salt on our face GCXC road race Chasing that pace Everybody’s flyin’ in the GCXC road race [Verse 2] Coach by the cones with a stop-watch stare Fresh-cut grass and the cool fall air Starter’s gun pops We spill down the street Echo off the houses and the stompin’ feet [Chorus] GCXC road race Runnin’ by the bay Sun on our shoulders Salt on our face GCXC road race Chasing that pace Everybody’s flyin’ in the GCXC road race [Bridge] Up that long last hill (oh yeah) Thought I’d had my fill But the crowd shouts loud And it pulls me through Saw my best friend grin “I’m right by you” [Chorus] GCXC road race Runnin’ by the bay Sun on our shoulders Salt on our face GCXC road race We found our place Everybody’s smilin’ at the GCXC road race [Chorus] GCXC road race Sing it one more time Hearts beatin’ steady as we cross that line GCXC road race Sweet tired grace We’ll be back next summer for the GCXC road race
