America’s Anthem: by Sly Cain

America’s Anthem Hook: It’s wreck, not great Verse 1 You say she shining, red white blue But tell me who it’s shining through If one side hurting in the dark How we calling this a spark? If one group running just to live While others never forced to give If safety only fit a few Then what that say ‘bout me and you? Streets cry out in broken tone Mothers praying over stone Dreams delayed, doors locked tight Still we told “everything’s alright.” Pre-Hook You can’t build tall on cracked ground Truth don’t whisper — it’s loud You can’t preach unity While dividing the crowd Hook It’s wreck, not great If we ain’t safe One for all or it’s all too late It’s wreck, not great Face the weight If some fall through — we all break Verse 2 This land was built by many hands Different colors, different plans Blood and sweat in every brick History don’t fade that quick If you cut the hands that helped you stand Tell me how you hold this land? If reverse is where we drive How we all supposed to thrive? Great ain’t loud, it’s just Fair laws and equal trust Great don’t fear diversity It builds with honest currency Pre-Hook If privilege thinks it’s safe While others fight the gate Storms don’t pick a side They hit the whole estate Hook It’s wreck, not great Hear the weight A divided house can’t dominate It’s wreck, not great Check the state If we not equal — we ain’t straight Bridge (Soulful Rock Lift — Sung, not spoken) America… can you hear me now? Freedom’s more than words you shout Justice ain’t selective love It’s measured by who rises up Final Hook (Big Finish) It’s wreck, not great Till we elevate Every life at the same rate It’s wreck, not great Don’t debate Safe for one means safe for all — that’s fate Outro You want her great? Then make her safe. For everybody.
