In the Blue

[Pre-Chorus]
He was the hole they couldn’t fill, the threat they had to honor
A thousand yards and the reason the box stayed honest
Now it’s four to six weeks and a limp nobody wants to name
And the biggest games on the slate don’t have him in them

[Chorus]
LJ’s out for a month and the mountain feels smaller tonight
We were supposed to run this thing with him
Notre Dame’s coming to Provo, Utah’s waiting down the road
And the best back we’ve had in years is watching from the bench
I’m in the blue and it already feels like a loss
Don’t tell me he’ll be back in time

[Verse 2]
Seventeen-ten at TCU and he left in the first
Two carries, sixteen yards, and the season walked off with him
Reigning offensive player of the year, and now it’s a calendar
Iowa State, the Irish, maybe the rivalry too

[Pre-Chorus]
Everybody in the building knew who the offense was
You game-planned the run because you had to
Now the biggest stage of the year doesn’t have that problem
And I’m already grieving a game that hasn’t kicked

[Bridge]
He was the carry
He was the reason the line of scrimmage mattered
And for a month the biggest games don’t get him
That’s the whole song

[Final Chorus]
LJ’s out for a month, longer if the limp was honest
LaVell’s gonna be loud and it won’t put him back in
The player of the year on the sideline in a sling of weeks
And I’m wearing the blue like the night already ended
I’m in the blue and it already feels like a loss
Come back when you’re ready
Just don’t make us do this without you
