One More Round

V6

Friday night, same corner booth, Same old jokes, same worn-out truth. You laugh on cue, but something’s not right, Like half of you is somewhere else tonight. I ask if you’re good, you say, “I’m fine.” Two plain words, but I'm not buying the line. I could nod and let it be the end, But I’ve known you way too long, my friend. So I flag the waitress down, "Hit us again, when you come back around." You frown and say you should go But my gut tells me no Sit back down, one more round, You don’t have to say it now You said you’re fine — maybe you are, But I know when something’s hit you hard. One more round, one more try, One more chance to ask you why. Sometimes “I’m fine” just means, my friend, Ask me one more time again. You stare too long into your glass, Like you’re waiting for the moment to pass. The room gets thin, the lights burn low, The crowd clears out, but we don’t go. Then you breathe out, slow and rough, “Truth is, man, it’s been too much.” No big speech, no need to say it again, Just a few small words between friends. I don’t fix it, I don’t preach, I just stay there in my seat. Sometimes it's enough to just be there To show a brother that you care. Sit back down, one more round, You don’t have to push it down You said you’re fine — now I know There’s more underneath than you let show. One more round, one more try, One more chance to say what’s inside. Sometimes “I’m fine” just means, my friend, Ask me one more time again. I almost let that answer stand. Almost shook your hand. Almost said, “Text me when you get home” I almost let you walk that road alone. Funny how a minute can change What tomorrow might have been. One more drink. One more question. One friend who stays till the end. You don’t have to have the words. We don't have to solve it tonight. You don’t have to know what hurts. We can sit in silence if that feels right. Sit back down, one more round, We can let the whole damn world spin ’round. You don’t have to fake alright, You don’t have to win tonight. One more round, one more friend, One more reason not to pretend. Sometimes all it takes in the end Is one more question from one good friend. You good? ...No. Alright. One more round.
