Open the Door

V6

I don’t need a highlight reel. I don’t need my name on a ranking. I don’t need somebody deciding at nine years old whether I’m worth the investment. I just need a ball. An open field. A coach who knows me and believes in me. Somebody willing to open the door. Before the trophies, before the score, Before the scouts came knocking at the door, Drawing plays in the dirt, a hoop with no net, A game after school we could never forget. We learned how to fall, how to rise up again, How to lose with grace, and stand with a friend. That field was our classroom, our coach was our guide. We discovered the strength we were carrying inside. Not every kid goes pro—that’s not why we play. It’s the lessons we learn along the way. Quiet kids find their voice; restless kids grow strong. The power of play starts with a place to belong. Movement is the medicine. Belonging is the power. Make room for every child— This is the hour. Open the door, let the children play. Give every kid a chance to find their way. A ball and a field can change a life— Create the conditions and watch children rise. Open the door, let the whole world see: The game belongs to everybody. No child left out. No dream ignored. Every kid deserves an open door. I’m trying to do what is best for my kid, So I paid every fee, and I did what they said. New uniform. New league. New travel deposit. They turned childhood dreams into somebody’s profit. Hotel on Friday, three games in a day, A private instructor because that’s what it takes. They said, “If you love them, you’ll find it somehow.” But how much does belonging cost a family now? Select. Premier. Travel. Elite. Every rung on the ladder comes with a receipt. More coaching. More metrics. More reps. More miles. More adults directing, less room for the child. We built a vertical ladder around how kids played, Then monetized each step along the way. Private equity sees a market where we once saw play, Buying clubs and tournaments, raising what families pay. They consolidate access and monetize hope Till working families have nowhere to go. Investment can build better fields where we learn, But follow the money—who gets the return? A child is not inventory. A dream is not a fee. Talent is everywhere—opportunity should be. Every hour scheduled. Every outcome scored. Every choice already made before they reach the floor. Screens claim their attention. Performance becomes identity. Adults make every choice. Children lose their agency. Kids were made to move—let them run, let them race. They need real connection, adventure and space. Not every hard moment gets solved by a screen. Sometimes what they need is grass, sweat and a team. Adults may know the science; kids should feel that we care. We can build a structure—leave childhood some air. Give them room to make choices, permission to fall, And a coach who builds courage—not shame—through it all. Give them challenge and safety, a voice and a choice, A place to belong and the freedom to find joy. This is more than exercise, more than keeping a score. It’s prevention and purpose. It’s a pathway to more. These are lessons for life, not trophies on display. We build better humans whenever they play. Don’t tell me I’m the future, Then price me out today. Don’t say that I can be someone, Then take the field away. Don’t plan my every moment. Don’t tell me who to be. Create the right conditions— Then leave some play for me. We need fields built to last and investment that’s wise, But success must be measured by how children rise. Build systems for children—not markets and scores. When they find something they love, open the door. This is our medicine. This is our stand. Put a ball in a child’s heart, put hope in their hands. The country we’re raising begins on the floor When somebody sees them—and opens the door. Open the door, let the children play. Give every kid a chance to find their way. A ball and a field can change a life— Create the conditions and watch children rise. Open the door, let the whole world see: The game belongs to everybody. No child left out. No dream ignored. Every kid deserves an open door. LEAD: Whose game? GROUP: Our game! LEAD: Whose future? GROUP: Our future! LEAD: What do we do? ALL: Open the door! Adults create the conditions. Children own the play. Open the door.
