Headed to McDonald's just a little after six, Thought I'd grab a Big Mac and get my hongry fix. Turned that corner... Mercy, what'd I see? Looked like half the county Had the same idea as me! Tail lights... Brake lights... Far as I could see. If patience is a virtue... It's fixin' to grow on me! Roll a little... Stop a little... Move another foot. Everybody starin' Like they're hypnotized by take-out food. Window down... Radio loud... A drive-thru line at supper time... That's modern livin' misery! Now here comes the split... Two lanes side by side. Left one looks faster... Then the right one starts to glide. Changed my mind three times Before I picked a lane. The fellow behind me just shook his head... Then the pickup in front of me went and ordered twenty-seven meals... Left lane... Right lane... Everybody schemes. Tryin' to beat the system And live the fast-food dream. Then those lanes come back together... "Easy now... Nobody panic." One wrong merge Could spell our fast-food doom! Finally reached the payment window, Card already out. She smiled, verified my order, and handed my card back. Now I'm smellin' French fries... Man, that oughta be a crime. That smell'll make a grown man Forget about the time. One more stop... One more crawl... Almost there at last. Before I get too excited... Better check it carefully... Got back hone... Sun going down... Country music cranked. ... One big bite... Eyes closed tight... Lord... That Big Mac Was worth the wait! "You know... I'd probably do it all again tomorrow." "Long as they don't run outta' fries!"
