Next to me a house can be seen. That most avoid on Halloween. Off to school I go every day. As I pass this house on the way. As I meet my friends, just down the street. My long trip is still not complete. Close to me the school can be found. But my friends take the long way around. After school’s done, we start our trip home. But I do the last part all on my own. I pass that house, right around 4:00. As I see thirty pumpkins or more. With these pumpkins color is found. Instead of the normal gray and brown. This color doesn’t change the game. This house is scary just the same. I take the long way, I don’t know why, Past that house with the watching eyes. Every step feels like I’m not alone, Every road leads me closer to home. If you’re calling my name, I’m listening now, Even God can speak through a pumpkin somehow So I put this house out of my mind. As I leave it and its pumpkins behind. At this point there was no way to see. How strange all of these pumpkins would be. Next morning I wake to the sound of crows. That comes from next door through open windows. These crows remind me of something I know. That past this house, again I must go. I pause for just a second or two. Taking in this surprising view. But I must start the rest of my day. And so I continue on my way. So past this house, I go once more. When I see something, I had not before. There, on just one pumpkin I see. The word HELLO, Looking back at me. I take the long way, I don’t know why, Past that house with the watching eyes. Every step feels like I’m not alone, Every road leads me closer to home. If you’re calling my name, I’m listening now, Even God can speak through a pumpkin somehow. At the end of the day on my way back. The pumpkin now says, “HELLO JACK.” And every pumpkin has the same. Ninety eight pumpkins that all have my name. So I look around for the source of my name. And look around for a person to blame. But pumpkin after pumpkin is all I see. I have now counted one hundred and three. Only one word is now very clear. On every pumpkin both far and near. Just one word where their mouths should be. The word “GOD”, for all to see. I yell out, who’s doing this to me? But there is no one I hear or see. Then I hear a sound that is strange. When I turn around I notice a change. I take the long way, I don’t know why, Past that house with the watching eyes. Every step feels like I’m not alone, Every road leads me closer to home. If you’re calling my name, I’m listening now, Even God can speak through a pumpkin somehow. So I lift a pumpkin up to the sky. I ask, “If you’re speaking to me, then why”. The pumpkin falls from my hands to the ground. As brand new words on this pumpkin are found. They say, “I DO NOT ONLY TALK TO YOU”. “SOME JUST DON’T LISTEN AS WELL AS YOU DO”. “So I’ll ask again, Why speak to me?” Then God says, DON’T WORRY, YOU’LL SEE.” [Pre chorus] COME BACK TOMORROW AND THEN WE WILL START. I’LL TELL YOU MY PLAN AND THEN TELL YOU OUR PART “That sounds good to me”, I said with a grin. “Tomorrow we’ll talk, I’ll see you then.” I take the long way, I don’t know why, Past that house with the watching eyes. Every step feels like I’m not alone, Every road leads me closer to home. If you’re calling my name, I’m listening now, Even God can speak through a pumpkin somehow. [Guitar solo] I take the long way, I don’t know why, Past that house with the watching eyes. Every step feels like I’m not alone, Every road leads me closer to home. If you’re calling my name, I’m listening now, Even God can speak through a pumpkin somehow.
