Clockwork Thunder

V6-MINI

Well, I’ve crunched the numbers: (Yes, I know: Muuuuuuh, not again!) What if there’s lightning in the spring, right when the clocks change? ... Does the thunder arrive an hour later? You could end up counting until you go completely mad, couldn't you? And what about when the clocks change at the end of October - if there’s lightning then? ... Doesn't the thunder arrive an hour *before* the lightning? What are you supposed to do in that case? Count backwards? And where do you even start - at 100? It’s all so confusing! ---------- [Verse 1] Every spring they change the clocks and everybody says it's fine. They lose an hour, drink more coffee and get on with their lives. But I've got questions, lots of questions that nobody can explain: What if lightning strikes at two a.m. right when they change the time again? I count the seconds, one, two, three: waiting for the thunder sound. Then the clock jumps one hour forward and my logic hits the ground [Chorus] Can somebody help me understand? Can somebody lend a hand? Daylight saving twists my brain every year it's all the same If lightning flashes at the change and thunder follows in its way. Did I wait one hour for the storm or just a couple seconds more? Can somebody please explain? This whole thing drives me insane! [Verse 2] Now let's talk about October when the clocks all travel back. That's the part that really scares me and that's where my theories crack If lightning flashes right at countdown and the clocks move back an hour. Then the thunder comes six seconds later, but the clock says something stranger? So the thunder come before it, well? Did effects precede the cause? Have we broken space and time itself or simply changed our clocks? [Chorus] Can somebody help me understand? Can somebody lend a hand? Daylight saving twists my brain, every year it's all the same If lightning flashes at the change and thunder follows in its way, did it happen in the future? Or arrive the hour before today? Can somebody please explain? This whole thing drives me insane! [Bridge] I'm staying up every spring and fall. Watching clouds and watching all. The government must answer me this meteorological mystery And here's my brilliant master plan to make the nation smile again: Move the clock each Sunday night from nine p.m. to Friday night the same! No one work day in every single week, tell me that's not genius speak! [Final Chorus] Can somebody help me understand? I need a wiser, smarter man, I've counted storms for years and years and only gathered doubts and fears. If lightning strikes upon the switch, the math gets weird, the truth goes rich. I'm lost in time and thunder too and no one knows quite what to do. Can somebody please explain? Before next March drives me insane!
