Three Deep (Fractions, Decimals & Percents)

V6

[Intro - spoken, solo piano] Pencils up. Same number, three outfits. Three deep. [Verse 1 - laid-back flow] Percent mean "per hundred" — that's the root, that's the base, Fraction is a part of a whole — top over bottom, in its place. Decimal's place value — tenths, hundredths, in a line, Same amount, three outfits — one value every time. Fraction to a decimal? Top divided by the bottom, slice, Three-fourths — three divided by four — zero point seven-five, nice. One-half is point five, one-fourth is point two-five, One-tenth is point one — benchmarks keep your math alive. [Hook - chant, gang vocals] Three deep (three deep!) — three forms, one value, Fraction, decimal, percent — same amount, I'm tellin' you, Divide it for the decimal, times a hundred for percent, Over a hundred, then simplify — that's where the fraction went. (F!) (D!) (P!) — now you know. [Verse 2 - double-time] Decimal to percent — move the point two places right, Point seven-five is seventy-five percent — times a hundred, that's tight. Percent back to decimal — two places left, divide, Forty percent is point four — drop the sign and slide. Percent to a fraction — put it over a hundred, then reduce, Seventy-five over a hundred — three-fourths, that's the truce. Decimal to a fraction — say the place value out loud, Point six is six-tenths — simplify — three-fifths, proud. Same number wearing three forms, never changed the size, Convert 'em all to one form when you compare — that's wise. [Beat Switch - darker drums, aggressive flow] One-third won't end — point three-three-three on repeat, Put a bar on top — thirty-three and a third percent, complete. Two-thirds — point six repeating — sixty-six and two-thirds percent, One-eighth is point one-two-five — twelve and a half, that's where it went. Over a hundred percent? Bigger than a whole — one-twenty-five, That's one point two-five — five-fourths — improper, still alive. Less than one percent — half a percent is point zero-zero-five, Count your places careful — that's how the sharp ones survive. [Outro - spoken, solo piano] "Three-fifths of the class aced the test." Three-fifths — fraction. Three divided by five — point six — decimal. Times a hundred — sixty percent. Sixty over a hundred, simplify — back to three-fifths. Same value. Three forms. Three deep. Class dismissed. [End]
