It's Always About ME

(Verse 1) Let me introduce my nemesis, she's lived with me for years, Her full name's Myalgic Encephalomyelitis — yes, it's a mouthful, cheers. Some people call it Chronic Fatigue like it's just being a bit tired, Like millions of us simply woke one day and mutually expired. That name did decades worth of damage, said "it's probably in your head" — While people with a serious disease were dismissed and left for dead. (Pre-Chorus) Oh it's so much more than tired, let me count the ways — It's a full-time occupation just surviving through the days. (Chorus) M.E., M.E., M.E. — it's always about M.E.! (The condition, not my ego — though I see the irony.) There's pain, and fog, and crashing when I dare to push too far — Post-Exertional Malaise means don't you dare reach for that star Or you'll pay for it for DAYS. Yeah, it's always about M.E. (Verse 2) I had PLANS today — big plans — I was going to leave the house, I'd showered and I'd dressed myself as quiet as a mouse. I grabbed my keys, I reached the door, the sunlight called my name — And then my body said "Ha! Cute." And I went back to bed again. (Pre-Chorus) I was THIS close to an outing, I could taste the fresh air there — But ME had other ideas so I'm rearranging my underwear. (Chorus) M.E., M.E., M.E. — it's always about ME! I try to read a paragraph and lose it after three. The brain fog drifts in gently like a very rude surprise — I had a thought just moments ago, I watched it say goodbye. In the middle of a sen— Yeah, it's always about ME. (Bridge) They said "just push through" — well thanks, I hadn't tried! They said "it's all in your head" — oh there's something there alright. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis means the brain and muscles ache — Not "a bit knackered on a Tuesday" for goodness sake. "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" — what a charming little name, Like calling a tsunami "some light coastal rain." (Final Chorus) M.E., M.E., M.E. — it's always about ME! I planned to climb a mountain but I'll settle for some tea. There's the pain that never leaves me, and the fog that steals my brain, There's the crashing — P.E.M.'s a joy — you'll find me here again. And yes, before you ask — there's fatigue too, obviously — But you already knew that bit, it's on the TIN you see. I didn't choose this nemesis, But here we are — just ME. (Outro - spoken, deadpan) I was going to write a longer outro... ...but I need to lie down.
