[Intro] [Verse 1] With our flight to Meso-America only one day away I still had lots to do around the ol’ chalet My most important chore was to cut the lawn Lest it’d turn into a hayfield whilst we were gone [Verse 2] I hoofed my favourite mower outta the shed It ran for ten seconds then stopped dead I Played with the kill switch and removed a spring Felt proud of myself as I pulled that string [Verse 3] The mower ran enough to cut ten feet of grass Then died a quick death before another pass It’s okay, I have two more mowers in that shed I’ll just pull them out and try each of ‘em instead [Verse 4] None of them worked either No matter how much I tried I pulled and I pulled, but neither engine complied Frustrated and defeated, I abandoned my plan To cut that lawn like a Renaissance man [Instrumental Interlude] [Spoken Word] “By the way, we had a wonderful time exploring Costa Rica, Panama and Columbia… saw the southern cross and the North Star in the same sky… so cool.” [Instrumental Interlude] [Verse 5] On our trip home it was decided We’d invest in an electric mower Then learned, if we waited a week The cost could be a bit lower But looking at that grass, it had grown about a foot So I grabbed my favourite mower even knowin’ it went kaput [Verse 6] Pull, start, run, sputter, die Pull, start, run, sputter, sputter, die It would only cut about ten feet of lawn And I couldn’t figure out what was goin’ on All switches were open The cable had enough tension Then the fuel cap caught my attention [Verse 7] Focused on things needing to be done so fast it never occurred to me once to check the tank for gas I went straight to the reality that my mower was dead, destined to be scrapped, written off in my head [Laughter] [Verse 8] Ya… I filled the tank with fuel And finished mowing the lawn No stops, no stalls, no sputters My favourite mower lives on There’s a lesson to be learned Some experience to gain Personally I think it’s Awkham’s Razor to blame [Instrumental Bridge] [Verse 9] Our thoughts are the lenses through which we view reality; in each moment, we paint our own truth with the colors of our beliefs [Verse 10] Embrace the fluidness of your perception, for what feels true today may be just a deception The truth may shift like the clouds of tomorrow. Sometimes we need to let go of what we think we already know [Instrumental Outro] Carry on, my friend, carry on Carry on, my friend and keep explorin’ [Applause]
