AIN’T THAT THE TRUTH Verse 1 You can’t spend your last dollar And still have it in your jeans. You can’t plant a row of taters And expect to pick green beans. You can talk about hard work Till your face is turning blue, But talking never dug a ditch— Ain’t that the truth. Chorus Ain’t that the truth, Plain as the nose on your face. Some things don’t need explaining, They’re just plain common sense. Life will teach a lesson That’ll stick right there with you— The older that I get, the more I say, “Ain’t that the truth.” Verse 2 You can’t take back a harsh word Once it’s ringing in her ears. And a dozen grocery roses Won’t erase a dozen years. If you want to keep love growing, There’s some tending left to do. A wedding ain’t the finish line— Ain’t that the truth. Chorus Ain’t that the truth, Plain as the nose on your face. Some things don’t need explaining, They’re just plain common sense. Life will teach a lesson That’ll stick right there with you— The older that I get, the more I say, “Ain’t that the truth.” Bridge I used to know it all back then, Just ask that younger me. Life’s a mighty patient teacher, But the lessons don’t come free. I’ve eaten words and humble pie, Had to choke down quite a few. Turns out I’ve still got things to learn— Ain’t that the truth. Last Chorus Ain’t that the truth, Plain as the nose on your face. Some lessons take a lifetime, Some just take one mistake. I earned a little wisdom Doing things I shouldn’t do— The older that I get, the more I say, “Ain’t that the truth.” Yeah, I’m still learning every day— Ain’t that the truth.
