The Last Bard of the Honky Tonk
[Verse 1] Matt Spencer played beneath the neon light, His banjo made the stars dance every night. They called him just a country singer man, But there was ancient magic in his hands. Then the doors flew open, cold blue lights, Three strange visitors walked in that night. Black eyes glowing, silver skin, One spoke up with a wicked grin. [Verse 2] “Your kind of power is nearly gone, You’re coming with us before the dawn. Your songs can crack a world in two, And we’ve got plans for the likes of you.” Matt tipped his hat and raised his glass, Said, “You picked the wrong joint, space ass! I ain’t leaving, so here’s your cue.” He grabbed his banjo. “Let’s see what you can do!” [Chorus] He’s the last bard standing, outlaw of the sound, With a magic banjo blazing, he ain’t backing down. Bring your flying saucers, bring your laser light, You can’t steal the music from the man who owns the night. Sing it loud, play it mean, let the universe know, You don’t abduct a country boy when he’s got somewhere to go! [Verse 3] The first one fired a beam of light, Matt struck a chord and turned it into flight. The second raised a claw to strike, One wicked riff sent it into the night. The third screamed loud enough to crack the sky, Matt picked a tune that made its weapons fly. The whole damn bar began to sing, And every voice made the rafters ring. [Bridge] Their spaceship shook, their engines died, The captain took a two step glide. Their mighty weapons turned to rust, Their grand invasion bit the dust. They’d conquered worlds and stars above, But couldn’t beat a song made out of love. [Final Chorus] He’s the last bard standing, outlaw of the sound, With a magic banjo blazing, he just drove the heavens down. All your saucers smoking, all your laser cannons fried, And your captain’s doing two step with a possum by his side! Sing it loud, play it mean, let the universe know, You don’t abduct a country boy when he’s got somewhere to go! [Outro] The aliens fled at break of day, Matt tuned his banjo and resumed his play. So if strange lights appear above your local bar, Don’t mess with the bard who can out sing a star!
