“Four Things God Doesn’t Know” by Michael D. Berry, DC [verse 1] It’d been a hard week, my heart was low, So I grabbed my pole and I took it slow. Down that old dirt road where the willows grow, To the quiet place where I always go. The water whispered, the sun was kind, But peace was something I couldn’t find. I cast my line and bowed my head, Just me and the memories in my head. [verse 2] Then an old man came, from I don’t know where, He smiled real soft, with a silver stare. He sat right down on that weathered log, And said, “Son, you look like you’re talkin’ to God.” I nodded slow, said, “Sir, I try, But sometimes faith just passes me by.” He chuckled low, said, “Boy, don’t you know? There’s four things God don’t know.” [chorus] He said, “He don’t know a sinner He doesn’t love, He don’t know a sin He can’t forgive. He don’t know a heart He can’t change, And no other way to salvation than Through Jesus Christ, the truth and the way, You can start brand new today.” Then that old man bowed his head low, And said, “There’s four things God don’t know.” [verse 3] Something stirred deep down in me, Like the ripples on that peaceful sea. He said, “Son, if you want, we can pray right here, The Lord’s been waitin’ all these years.” So right there on that river’s bend, I prayed with that stranger, called him friend. I felt the weight of my sorrow fade, As grace rolled in like a tidal wave. [bridge] I looked around, the sun was high, But the old man vanished — no goodbye. Just my tackle box and a gentle breeze, And a heart set free down on my knees. [final chorus] He don’t know a sinner He doesn’t love, He don’t know a sin He can’t forgive. He don’t know a heart He can’t change, And no other way to heaven there is. Through Jesus Christ, my soul was saved, I’ll never forget that day. Down by the river, the truth did show— There’s four things God don’t know. [outro] Yeah, down by the river, now I know... There’s four things God don’t know.
