Remember the Hour

[Verse 1] I remember the hour when sadly we parted The tears on your pale cheek glistening like rain Your hand in mine trembled, your brave smile was broken And silence stood between us, too heavy for words to explain [Chorus] Oh remember the hour, dear, remember it clearly When duty called me down a long unfamiliar road Though the campfire fades and the cold miles divide us Your name is the burden and comfort I carry alone [Verse 2] The fields wear their winter, the road keeps on turning A folded old letter lies close to my heart If fortune should spare me, I’ll cross back the ridges To find where you waited when sadly we parted [Chorus] Oh remember the hour, dear, remember it clearly When duty called me down a long unfamiliar road Though the campfire fades and the cold miles divide us Your name is the burden and comfort I carry alone [Outro] I remember the hour when sadly we parted And pray for the day when we never shall part
