Music has been part of my life since I started piano at 5 and drums at 12. At 14, I discovered MIDI and Cakewalk, and suddenly I could turn the pieces I’d written for piano into full arrangements. Sony ACID Pro came next, then Logic before Apple bought it. I’ve used Logic and Ableton Live ever since. I released my first album at 18 in 2001 and kept releasing music through 2009. Then a difficult divorce and other life struggles knocked the wind out of my creativity. I could still write hooks, choruses, and little fragments, but I couldn’t finish a song. Eventually, I stopped releasing music altogether. In 2024, I found a Discord server generating terrible little audio clips from prompts. The results were rough, but I saw the potential. When Suno’s v3.5 arrived, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. More importantly, I wanted to write again. I started feeding Suno years of unfinished ideas, using its responses to explore arrangements and rediscover songs I’d given up on. Thousands of generations later, I’m more productive than ever. Suno didn’t make me a musician. It helped me find my way back to being one.
