Keep making music. You never know who you might reach - Kate 💕🦋✨ I remember a day when my dad was first diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. His vocabulary often narrowed to a single, heartbreaking phrase: "I don't know" 🥲 On that day, I brought in books with pictures & began reading to him. To my amazement, he could still read - even in moments when he struggled to recognize Mom. Soon, his "I don't know" was replaced by him calling the hospice nurses over, excitedly sharing, "You’ve got to hear this story; this is a great book!" 📕 Inspired, I brought materials from my Montessori classroom for us to engage with together. Those last eight months transformed into a “whole new world” for Dad & everyone who cared for him. My hope is that, until we cure dementia, we can continue to open up these "Whole New Worlds" for those living with the disease, their families, & their caregivers. 🥰 In remembrance of my dad, I wrote the lyrics to “The Compass of His Love.” I then asked Suno to create a musical response from him to me, titled “The Echo of His Love.” When I first heard it, I wept - it was a powerful reminder of how much I missed him & a testament to the fact that music truly can heal 💕🦋✨
